1930 - 2015

James S. Brown was a lifelong resident of the Akron area. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving aboard the USS Mercury as a Fireman First Class during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Efficient Industries in Independence, OH in 1994. James was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ where he had served as Deacon, head usher, president of the men's group, Undershepherd, and lay visitor. He was also a longtime member of AA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (Milligan) and David Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth (Lyons); daughter, Joyce Archer of Zanesville, OH; sons, David (Jodie) of Hartville, OH, John (Janet) and Jay (Amy) both of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Mikal (Katie), Dan, Colin, Kylie, Mason, Skylar, and Gabriel; brother, Robert (Sally); special niece, Zoann and nephew, Michael.

Memorial service will be held o Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 3p.m. at the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, located at 1480 Eastwood Ave., Akron, OH 44305. Rev. Jay Schmidt officiating. There will be coffee and dessert to follow the service provided by the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Emmanuel United Church of Christ 1480 Eastwood Ave. Akron, OH 44305.
