Vodden E. Fortney
1946 - 2021

Vodden E. Fortney, age 74 of Seville Ohio, passed away on September 10, 2021. He was born on December 3, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert and Clarissa (Munn) Fortney. He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his wife of 17 years, Sally (Slenker).

Vodden is survived by his daughters, Nicole (Matt) Schutt of Perrysburg, Ohio and Stacey (Jerry) Vess of Fostoria, Ohio; his grandchildren, Clarissa Breece of Bowling Green, Ohio, Kyle Schutt of Perrysburg, Ohio and BreAnna Garvey of Fostoria, Ohio, and his great-grandson, Jeremy Bleckinger of Fostoria, Ohio.

He is survived by his brothers, C. James (Mary Jayne) Fortney of Columbus, Ohio and Bill Fortney of Napoleon, Ohio.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews along with members of the Seibert and Slenker families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clarissa Fortney; his brothers, Robert Fortney and Gary Fortney; his sister, Sharon Seibert; and his sister-in-law, Kathy (Ashbaugh) Fortney.

Vodden was drafted into the Army in1966 and spent two years serving his country in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, Vodden tried his hand at many occupations until finding his vocation in the technical world. He started his career as a computer operator with a small mail order company. In the years following, he continued to increase his knowledge and put it to work first at the United States Trotting Association before ultimately retiring as a Systems Engineer from the Ohio State Department of Job and Family Services.

Vodden enjoyed hiking, the outdoors, watching football, shooting pool and sometimes having a beer or two with his friends. His quick wit and tenderness (sometimes coated in a little sarcasm and gruff), will be missed by all that knew him.
