1926 - 2021

Mary Evelyn “Evie” Van Hook (nee Adams), 94, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 29, 2021. She was born on August 22, 1926 in Akron.

Preceding her in death is her son, Kenneth Van Hook; and brother, Jack Adams.

Left to cherish Evie’s memory are her daughters, Diana (Fred) Doerr, Cindy (Dennis) Wilt; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kelly (Rob), Kenny (Laura), John (Michelle), Kimberly (Brian), Gina (Rafik), Mary Beth, John, Jeffrey (Robyn), Amy and Amanda (Todd); 13 great-grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends. She was an inspiration to many people and affectionately known as “Grandma Evie”.

Evelyn was a faithful member of her church, The Chapel of Akron, for 50 years where she volunteered with the children’s ministries. She volunteered at St. Thomas Hospital for 28 years. She was dearly loved.

Memorial donations can be made in her name to The Chapel's Camp Carl.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH from 5:00pm-7:00pm. A funeral service will be held the following morning at The Chapel (Memorial Chapel) 135 Fir Hill, Akron, OH at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior.
