In Memory Of
Margaret Ann {Mitchell} Allen
1928 - 2021

Margaret Mitchell Allen, 93, of Mogadore and recently of Lakemore, passed away July 29, after a long period of ill health.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elsa and Archie Mitchell, her sisters Charlotte Hunt and Gertrude Ward and brother James Mitchell and her beloved husband, Gerald.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Lance; her children, David (Alyson), Mark, and Amy; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Margaret was born in Kent County, Delaware in 1928 and graduated from Dover High in 1946. While working as an assistant bookkeeper in the Pentagon, she met and married SSgt Gerald Allen, of Glens Falls, New York. They lived in Indiana, Ohio, New York, and Massachusetts before returning to Ohio to settle in Mogadore. For several years she was the Mogadore correspondent for the Tribune-Gazette newspaper. Later, she worked at the Akron Summit County Public Library.

After Margaret's children left home she went to college part time at the University of Akron and Kent State University studying geography and geology.

Margaret was a quiet person who was most comfortable at home, but her family was always welcome there. We remember her hospitality, her encouragement, her advice, and her generosity. She was a painter, a writer and a teller of stories which her children and grandchildren remember, but most of all, an avid lifelong reader.

Calling hours will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, 44305 on Monday, August 2 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The service will be held at the chapel at Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore on Tuesday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank, 350 Opportunity Parkway, Akron, OH 44307-2234; AkronCantonFoodBank.org.
