1927 - 2021

Dorothymae Arfons Rutter, (nee Flory) 94, of City of Green, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 23, 1927 in Akron and was a lifelong resident of the area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Don Flory; first husband, Dale Arfons; second husband, Edward Rutter; four brothers, Don Jr., Calvin Lee, Melvin, and James “Jimmy” Flory; and step-daughter Teresa Nichols.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Criss (David) Houpt; step-children, Tommy Kortepeter and Gary (Elsie) Arfons; grandchildren, Shana (Josh) Thomas and John Houpt; and great-grandchildren, Dakota (Olivia) Thomas, Logan Houpt, Luke Houpt, Alexandra Houpt and Dustin Thomas.

Dorothymae worked as a secretary at BF Goodrich for many years. After retirement, she loved to travel and would also go on adventures with her camper group. Alaska was one of her favorite destinations. She was a great wife, mother, housekeeper, enjoyed gardening and canning and will be dearly missed.

Calling hours will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, on Monday, July 19, 2021 from 5:00pm-7:00pm. A service will be held the following morning at the funeral home at 10:00am. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
