Michael Lee Helmacy, 64, of Akron, passed away suddenly on June 11, 2021. He graduated from East High School in 1974 and joined the U.S. Navy. Mike was stationed in the Pacific Northwest and remained there for several years after his military service. While living in Seattle, Mike became interested in the emerging computer industry. He taught himself how to operate and maintain computer systems, which led to his 20 year career as an IT technician with GOJO.
In his free time, Mike enjoyed fishing, bowling, and working on cars. He also loved astronomy and could often be found scanning the heavens with his telescope on a clear night. He was a wonderful husband, brother, and friend and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Earlene Cates-Smith; father, Raleigh Helmacy; and grandparents, Ysobel and Michael Helmacy and Winifred Stair.
