Laverne Turner
1928 - 2020

Laverne (nee Fuller) Turner, 92, of Akron, OH passed away on August 7, 2020. She was born to parents Rose (nee Cooke) and Charles Fuller on April 7, 1928.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Wilburn, of 66 years; son, Kenneth; her parents; and siblings, Eula, Thomas, Francis, Charles, Alvin, Edith, George, Barbara Jean, Mardis “Joe”, and Rose Marie.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Durwin (Dorris) Turner and Theresa Turner; grandchildren, Rushon, Durvelle, Darrio Turner; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Donald Fuller; brother-in-law Willie Moore; daughter-in-law Barbara Turner; sister-in-law Archie Venable; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Laverne was a very loving soul; those who met her found her warm and kind manner inviting. She was devoted to her family until the end. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church joining at the age of 12, under the late Reverend A.L. Dykes. She worked in various ministries and organizations over the years, most notably the Sick and Shut-In Ministry and the Improvement Committee.

She was a West High School graduate, and worked as a Teacher’s Aide with Headstart in the early years. But it was nurturing, guiding and raising her family that were her greatest accomplishments, and serving the Lord and her church. The 23rd Psalm is her favorite scripture.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 11am at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH. Masks and social distancing are required. She will be laid to rest at Mount Peace Cemetery.
