Doy A. Hamrick, 75, passed away unexpectedly on September 16, 2018. A longtime Akron resident, he was born in Webster Springs, WV to late parents Doy H. and Jana Hamrick. Doy graduated from Tallmadge High School and attended the University of Akron. He was the first paramedic chief of the Akron Fire Dept., from which he retired as Deputy Chief after 27 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Thelma. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marianna; daughter, Katie (Matt) Eve of Floyds Knobs, IN; sons, D.J. of Tallmadge and Chris, also of Tallmadge; grandchildren, Madison and Dashiell Costello; brothers, Gary of Jeffersonville, IN, Larry (Wanda) of Tallmadge, Terry (Rita) of New Philadelphia, OH, and Mendel (Mary) of Algonquin, IL; sisters-in-law, Susan (Tim) Kling of Medina and Claudia Dicks of Knoxville, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10am-1pm on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral service to begin at 1pm. Cremation will take place at a later date.
