1935 - 2018

Paul Robert Schaefer, 83, passed away unexpectedly on September 4, 2018. He was born April 30, 1935 to late parents Hobart and Bernice Schaefer. With his loving wife Evangelist Judy Carter Schaefer, they traveled to Haiti to support their school, church and many orphans. In addition he also enjoyed traveling and outdoor sports such as swimming, boating, water skiing, camping and especially feeding the ducks at Springfield Lake, which is where he met his loving wife Judy. Paul instilled the importance of fitness in the lives of his family by taking regular trips to the Natatorium and placed third at Mr. Ohio Bodybuilding during his 20's. He was very proud of his sobriety of over 30 years. Paul worked for General Tire, Roadway Express and Aamco.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl, Jack and Harry; and his favorite cat, Joy. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Judy; daughters, Denise (Randy) Toney, Laura (Robert) Ondecker, Brenda (Cecil) Richmond, Linda (Joe) Vuksta; grandchildren, Larry (Angel), Candice (Jeff), J.C. (Brooke), Krista, Katlyn (Mike), Amanda (Joe), Rebecca, Justin (Jenna), Cory (Emily), Alex, Elena; 13 great-grandchildren; special niece, Barbie (Jay) Knoll; nephews, Lee Schaefer, Dan (Laura) Carter, David (Debbie) Carter; brother-in-law, David (Nancy) Carter; and his loving cats, Angel and Max.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 5-7pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron followed by funeral service at 7pm. Cremation will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the Akron Summa ICU staff for the compassionate care he received
