Harwood E. "Sonny" Ashley, Jr.
Sonny Ashley, 88, of Stow, passed away on November 13, 2015. He was born in Canton, OH on October 17, 1927 to the late Harwood and Bessie Ashley Sr. Sonny proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from Ford Motor Company Walton Hills after 32 years of service. He loved cars and fishing. He will always be remembered for his kind heart and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his sisters, Beverly, Betty, and Patty; grandsons, Joseph (Summer) McStay and Robert Ashley Jr.; and great-grandsons, Gianni and Joseph McStay. He is survived by his wife, Jenny; children, Tim (Noreen) Ashley, Sr., Mike (Velda) Ashley, Bob Ashley, and Pam (Paul) Woodward; stepchildren, Suzanne (David) Doughty, Annette (Ken) Canfield, Yvonne Zook, Michelle (Steve) Batten; siblings, Larry (Judy) Ashley, Ronald (Jessie) Ashley, and Susan (Butch) Newell; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and special friend, Adam Jordan.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 2-5 followed by a 5:00 p.m. funeral service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Sonny will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.
