William R. "Bill" Pope, Sr., 67, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at his home in Akron following his battle with cancer. He was born August 31, 1946 to the late Charles and Margaret Pope. Bill served his country during the Vietnam war through the U.S. Army and retired from Revlis Corp. and previously worked at General Tire. He loved going to dirt track races and working on his corvette.
Bill is survived by his wife Beverly Humphreys-Pope, daughter Christine Pope, sons William "Bill" (Ali) Pope, Jr. and Steven (Kay) Pope, sister Valerie Croghan, brother Charles (Theresa) Pope, grandchildren; Danielle, Justine, Jacob, Rachel, Adam and Noel, great-grandchildren Keeley and Kayden (on the way), sons and daughters-in-law; Craig and Lori (Carlie, Alyson, Caleb), Jerry and Rachelle (Susan and Justin), Carl and Linda (Jessica, Carl III, Jacob), special friends Jay and Patty, Paul, Randy, Scott and special cousin Linda.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
