William (Pop) Henry Rothwell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 23, 2025, in Tallmadge, Ohio, at the age of 94. Born on June 22, 1931, in Hannastown, Pennsylvania, William dedicated his life to nurturing and caring for those around him, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
William's career with Goodyear Aerospace was a testament to his industrious spirit, where he served diligently until his retirement at 62. His early years were marked by a noble commitment to his country; he proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea after completing high school. This foundation of service and dedication shaped the man he would become—a family man with a heart full of kindness.
In addition to his professional life, William was known for his warm and welcoming personality. He got along with everyone and was universally regarded as the kindhearted soul who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. Everyone thought he was so nice, and his unwavering kindness knew no bounds. Later in life, he found joy in crafting, making beautiful creations that he generously gifted to family, friends, and the residents of nursing homes—a reflection of his giving spirit.
Family was at the center of William’s world, and his pride and joy was undoubtedly his grandson, William "Bill" Folk. The love he had for his family was evident in every interaction. He cherished moments spent together, whether on fishing trips or family excursions to Las Vegas, where laughter and memories were shared amid the vibrant lights of the city.
William is survived by his cherished daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Tom McGinnis, along with his loving grandson, Bill. He is also survived by his sister, Becky Simms, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Tracy Rothwell who spent many hours with his uncle as a child, and brother-in-law, James Sheets.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Gloria Jean (Sheets) Rothwell, who forever holds a place in his heart, as well as, his son Billy and daughter Cathy. William will also be reunited in spirit with his parents, James and Rosalie Rothwell, and his siblings Gladys, James, Richard, and Delores, all of whom he missed dearly.
Though his presence will be profoundly missed, William’s legacy of generosity, love, and kindness will continue to inspire all who had the fortune to know him. In their hearts, his family will carry forward the lessons of compassion and the joyous memories he created throughout his remarkable life.
