William Raymond Gween Jr., 75, known to his family and friends as "Bill", passed away on December 18, 2025. He was born on December 26, 1949 in Akron, Ohio to the late William R. Gween Sr. and Helen Gween.
Bill retired from ODOT after over 20 years in highway maintenance.
In his free time, Bill loved to tinker with motorcycles and cars. He loved rock music and dabbled in playing the guitar. If you knew Bill, you loved him. He was kind and easygoing and never had a bad word to say about others. He retained his childlike view of the world even into adulthood. When his kids were young, the Gween house was where everyone in the neighborhood liked to be. He had a silly sense of humor and loved to tell "Dad/Bad" jokes.
Bill had a sweet tooth and was happiest with a bowl of candy and a Mountain Dew. He always had a smile on his face. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will remain in our hearts forever.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Duane Post.
Bill will be dearly missed by his children, Brandon Gween, Ryan (Tiffany) Gween, Todd (Tara) Gween, and Shannon Gween (Jeff Piazza) and their mother, Kathie Gween; sister, Patty Hoaglin; grandchildren, Kearsey, Bryce, Cheyanne, Camden, Alexxis, and Tenley; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 from 4-6 pm followed by a 6:00 pm funeral service at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Bill will be privately laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park at a later date.
