William A. Clark, 87, of Tallmadge, passed away at home on October 8, 2026. He was born in Akron, Ohio on October 14, 1938 to the late Charles and Irene Clark.
At the age of seventeen, Bill went to work with his father as a roofer. He was a proud member of Local 88 since the 1950s, having worked for Goodyear Heights Sheet Metal, Kasch Roofing, Wooster Sheet Metal, and finally his own company, Clark Roofing.
In his younger years, Bill was a motorcycle enthusiast. During a group ride, he was introduced to Sonja Staats and they quickly realized they were meant for one another. They married on October 5, 1968 and celebrated 58 years of marriage just days before his passing.
Bill and Sonja had many fond memories of motorcycle trips and camping with their wide group of friends every Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day.
They also had a shared passion for bluegrass music. Bill mastered any instrument he picked up but his favorites were the guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. Along with Sonja, who played the bass guitar, they would meet up with fellow musicians every Friday night to jam.
Bill and Sonja loved to travel and made a point of visiting Disney World every winter.
Bill was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Robert; and brother, Danny.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Sonja; children, Holly, Stacy, Thomas, Dustin, and William; many special grandchildren; brother, Charlie; and special nephew, Craig Loudon.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026 from 11:00 -12:00 pm, immediately followed by a 12:00 pm funeral service at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305. Interment at Tallmadge Cemetery.
