Wayne P. Rutledge, 75, went into the presence of Jesus on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, after a recent illness and hospital stay. A lifelong resident of Akron, he was a graduate of Central High School and served in the U. S. Army in Korea. "The Rut" was the family patriarch and his passing leaves a huge void in the lives of those who love him and will miss him dearly. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed sports, music, fishing, auto racing, car shows and was an avid reader.
Preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Alice Rutledge; and brother, Terry Rutledge. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Rutledge; sons, Mark Rutledge, of Woodstock, GA and Allen Rutledge, of Akron; daughter, Michelle Beban, of Akron; daughter-in-law, Michelle Rutledge; grandchildren, Candace, Mallory, Natalie, A.J., Alexandria, and Brooklyn; brother, Larry Rutledge; sister, Vicky Young; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and devoted friends.
Calling hours will be Saturday, 4-8 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a funeral service will be held Sunday at 12:30, with Pastor Lynn Warner officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675.
