Walter R. Kaufman
Retired Brimfield Fire Chief Walter R. Kaufman, 91, died Saturday, January 24, 2015. Walt was born in Brimfield, where he lived his entire life. He served as a Brimfield Volunteer Firefighter for 42 years, the last 12 as the Brimfield Fire Chief. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Walt was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby (Crites); sisters, Vickie Garl, Evelyn (Pete) Rhoades, and Thelma Foutz. He is survived by sister, Donna Crist; sons, Bob (Brenda), Kenny (Debbie), Tom (Janet); daughter, Judy Cutler (Guy); grandchildren, Mandi, Jessica Hall (Dave), Lacy, Amy, Laura, Michael; and great-grandchildren, Skylar and Trevor. Walt's family would like to thank the employees at Kent Ridge, Crossroads Hospice, the VA, and Eileen's Assisted Living for the care and compassion they gave to Walt.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 10-12 followed by a 12 noon funeral service with Pastor Glenn Rogers officiating at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Interment at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads Hospice at 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr., Uniontown, OH 44685.
