Walter Konesky, 90, was reunited with his wife of 62 years, Sarah, on November 16, 2012. Walter retired from McNeil Machine Inc. He served in WWII in the 101st Airborne, 503d Parachute Infantry Regiment, where he received a Presidential Citation for extraordinary heroism in the re-claiming of Corregidor and a letter of commendation for superior performance of duty during the surrender of 2,500 Japanese soldiers. Walter loved playing Polish music on his accordion in the Polka Pops band. When he wasn't playing, he and Sarah loved dancing.
In addition to his wife, Sarah, he was preceded in death by parents and 3 sisters. He leaves his daughter, Cathy (Kevin) Williams; granddaughter, Kristen Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Cardinal Retirement Village for the outpouring of love and friendship during his last year. Special thanks to Green High School, who honored him and other veterans, by giving him the parade he never had on November 1st.
Calling hours will be Monday, 5-8 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a prayer service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
