Victor Raymone Varner, 63, of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, at Akron City Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on December 15, 1961, in Akron, Victor was the beloved son of Evelyn L. Varner and Robert L. Varner. He lived a life full of dedication, laughter, and love. He was known for his kindness, his unwavering work ethic, and his gift for bringing people together.
Victor devoted 42 years to his career, working at Summa’s St. Thomas Hospital and Akron Children’s Hospital. He approached each day with enthusiasm, compassion, and a deep commitment to those he served. Victor lived by the phrase, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
He found joy in the simple things-time with family and friends, storytelling, and laughter that could fill a room. He was a faithful member of The House of the Lord. Victor loved sports of all kinds, especially baseball, football, volleyball, basketball, and martial arts. He also enjoyed jazz music, fishing, boating, and a good game of putt-putt golf.
Victor’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Shelia Quarterman-Varner; his brother, Michael "Varney" Varner; his daughter, Kendra (David) Conrad; his sons, Gabriel, Raeshawn, Christian, and Anthony Varner; his special aunt, Ethel Oden; his special friend, Peach; cousin, Billy; sisters-in-law Carolyn Lee, Ernestine Stallworth, Irene Harris, Geneva Williams, Margie (Ronnie) Brooks, Rosalyn Sanchez, and Lovell Foster; brothers-in-law Tommie (Patrice) Quarterman, Graylan (Camellia) Quarterman, and Bernie (Dorothy) Quarterman; and a host of additional family and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Varner Jr.; his mother, Evelyn L. Varner; his sister, Renee Varner; and his son, Victor Varner II.
A celebration of Victor’s life service will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service (11 a.m to 12 p.m.) and honor a man whose heart, humor, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone he met.
