Vernon William Kallio went home for Christmas on December 24, 2025 at the age of 75. Vernon was born on March 3, 1950, in Akron, Ohio, where he lived nearly his entire life. He graduated from Copley High School in 1968, and attended both the University of Akron and Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Vernon worked in a laboratory at B.F. Goodrich/Lubrizol as a dedicated chemist assistant, spending his whole career there as he provided for his family of six.
Vernon never met a stranger. He loved studying the Dead Sea Scrolls, Jewish history, and eschatology (end times). It was important to him that people in closed off nations had a chance to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. We all fall short of the glory of God and are in need of a Savior. God provided that for us in Jesus Christ, His Son, who took our sin upon Himself and paid the penalty of death so that we could be forgiven. Not only that, but Jesus rose again, conquering death, so that those who accept His sacrifice and believe in Him can have eternal life. Because our hope and trust is in Jesus, we look forward to the day when we will get to see Vernon again, healed and in the presence of our Savior.
Vernon was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Paul A. Kallio and Florence L. Kallio (Hunt). He is survived by his brother, Gary (Cheryl) Kallio; sons, Jason (Christina) Kallio, Jeremy (Merrily) Kallio, and Jesse (Tracy) Kallio; daughter, Rachel (Jeremy) Graves; their mother, Linda Kallio; grandchildren, Gabrielle (Zach), Elise, Grace, Samantha, Kate, Connor, Reese, Daniel, Spencer, and Johnny; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Regent of Stow and Summa Hospice for taking care of Vernon at the end of his life.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore, Ohio.
