Verna M. Koerber, 76, passed away on April 30, 2015. She was born in Akron on May 14, 1938 and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1956. She lived her entire life in Akron, retiring from Sterling Jewelers. She enjoyed vacationing with extended family with the OBX and Mexico being a few of her favorite places.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Scheeser; mother and stepfather, Carol and Cale Coulter. Verna will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 55 years, Gerard; children, Joe (Nancy) Koerber, Cindy Hawkins, and Chris Koerber; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. Verna also leaves her beloved dog, Kirbee. The family wishes to thank everyone involved in Verna's care, particularly Dr. Datinder B. Deo, Dr. Anne S. Grantham, Dr. Joseph R. McShannic, and the staff of Summa Critical Care Unit.
Visitation will be Monday, May 4, 2015 from 11-12 at St. Matthew Catholic Church followed by a 12 noon Funeral Mass. Verna will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
