Vern J. Newman

Vern J. Newman, 68, of Tallmadge, OH passed away on April 25, 2025, surrounding by loved ones. A true original, Vern lived life wide open, just like the throttle on his Harley.

Born on September 29, 1956, Vern was born to the late James ‘Bud’ and M. Jeanette Newman. Vern was a proud American who found joy in the roar of engines and the grit of hard work. A fan of NASCAR, Sunday races were a sacred tradition whether cheering for his favorite driver from the stands or watching on T.V. Talking about the latest standings was more than a hobby it was a way of life.

Vern also had a deep appreciation for the spirit of the cowboy; honest, rugged and fiercely independent. That same spirt carried over into his work in construction with calloused hands and as strong back Vern built more than bridges, he built a legacy of integrity, craftsmanship and dedication. There was nothing he could not fix, build or construct. No project was too big for him to handle. Vern started his career at a young age in construction while working for the family business Newman Construction. Vern retired after 35years from J.D. Williamson Construction.

Motorcycles were a passion of his. The open road was a place of freedom and peace. He could often be found riding with the wind at his back and nothing but blue skies ahead. Vern was always up for an opportunity to ride.

Vern will be remembered for his big heart, infectious laugh and the way he made everyone feel like family. He is proceeded in death by his sister Lynn Huebner and brother-in-law Mike Terranova. Vern is survived by his wife of 46 years, Robin; his children Tiffanie (James) Strizak and Jimmy Newman; grandchildren Ava Strizak and Arzy Newman; brothers Dave and Judd Newman; brother-in- law Jim (Kristy) Ward and sister- in-law Bobbi Terranova; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that will forever cherish the memories they shared.

Friends may call on Sunday, May 4th, 2025 from 1:00pm to 3:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home with a service following immediately at 3:30 p.m.
