Vaughan C. Scott

September 4, 1922 — July 24, 2019

Life comes at us in moments. Living nearly 100 years, Vaughan: wife, mother, grand & great-grandmother encountered countless moments; each one assessed with that sharp brilliance she possessed. A woman capable of accomplishing anything. If "Achievement with Excellence" could be a middle name, it would be hers. In both personal and professional life Vaughan Scott was a natural born Leader.

One moment she was a Navy Reservist the next she was attending Akron College and Northwestern College of Weather serving in the Weather Bureau for the Naval Ordinance during World War II at Port Columbus. Another joyful moment she was flying airplanes holding her solo pilot's license. Whatever Vaughan conceived, she achieved.

Married to Jean Randel Scott, they built their permanent Ohio home in Copley creating a family, working non-stop providing for their 3 children & homestead. Vaughan retired after 23 years at USPS followed by an affiliation with Kallstrom Realty. They retired to Bradenton, FL where they lived sub-tropical moments leading them into the political arena as frequently published authors in the local media. Vaughan's predilection for detail & knowledge as a scholar scouring God's Word in the Bible for His wisdom & discernment to become her own, pouring through historical & political books, newspapers & archives, she developed a deeply rooted avocation in Conservative politics aligning shoulder-to-shoulder with her husband. They were an impactual team in their community yet it was clear, Vaughan shone as a political bright star in her circle of influence. She didn't rely on news stories by the media. She went directly to the Congressional floor in Washington D.C. via C-SPAN, other media & political relationships gleaning first-hand authority in government politick. Her proclivity as an educator to those who eagerly sat at her feet, Vaughan's intellect and knowledge-base made each person she encountered accountable.

Tho' born in a 2 room log cabin in Joelton, TN to Alvin & Nancy Binkley (brother Alvin, sister Dorothy Edwards) relocating to Akron, OH, she departed her earthly life known as a lady and architect of secular, faith-based and political events graciously entertaining in her beautiful homes and special event venues. Vaughan was accomplished at receiving political leaders, introducing, supporting & counseling them as a 2-term President of the Women of Manatee County Republican Club and as a member of Manatee County Republican Club Federated (Bradenton, FL). She was also a member of The Executive Committee of Manatee County & awarded Volunteer of The Year in 1999.

She credits her direction & choices in life to her upbringing rooted in the original McKinley Avenue Church of God, Rev. F.G. & Birdie Smith (OH) in 1930's-50's; The Barberton Church of God, Rev. James Hall (OH) and The First Baptist Church of Bradenton (FL).

The Adelphi Club, a name she dubbed a happy gaggle of schoolgirl friends who hung tough their entire lives from elementary school to the grave met every month for decades until retirement years began separating several out of state. Yet these special friends remained close in heart and gatherings until Vaughan took the last member with her recent departure. Our mother outlived her friends, associates & birth-family, her husband Jean of 47 years, their beloved son, Randy & his beloved son Michael Scott. She stood in the peculiar last moments of her final chapter here as the last front-line soldier & standard-bearer for all in her immediate family with the exception of her 2 surviving daughters, Kim & Carli.

In her final days her greatest joy was the budding family-tree of her grand & great-grandchildren. She adored each one in our Tree for their uniqueness they bought into her life but held a special gratitude for Kim & Todd in who's home she lived her final chapter; Kristen who so tenderly attended to her; and Tyler who so often took his supper with Vaughan, reading The Bible to her as The Word of God sunk into her spirit preparing her for the final moment when she transitioned into the Arms of Jesus, Set Free, Welcomed Home & Reunited with those who Love & Lived for Christ & who went before.

This space is so short for a life lived so long. Yet, In This Moment, it represents a sliver of the life of a woman who made a difference and whose life counted as one to be remembered by all those who know her and those who did not have the opportunity to receive her gifts.

In this declaration of Love, Respect and Admiration in our last collective moment of historic tribute, we honor Vaughan:
