Thomas Arthur Pope, 85, passed away with his loving family at his side on January 21, 2026. He was born on Nov. 20, 1940 the son of the late Benjamin and Thomasine Pope of Akron, Ohio. Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. AirForce. He was a man of great faith and was a member of St. Peter of the Fields Catholic Church. Tom retired after 27 years of dedicated service from St. Gobain Performance Plastics. He enjoyed woodworking and was a gifted artist. Tom and his wife, Ellen, always enjoyed their many vacations abroad, including Hawaii and New Smyrna Beach. They also enjoyed attending mass at church. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his infectious smile, and the love in his heart for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters Alice and Jannet.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ellen Pope; children Benjamin (Lauren) Pope, David (Kym) Pope, Christine (Rich) Pope Rodenbucher, and Cynthia (Donald) Jones; grandchildren Makenna (Ryan) Opeka, Chad (Greta) Rodenbucher, Alexander Pope, Kyle Pope, Joshua (Brittney) Jones, and Ashley (R.C.) Cook; great-grandchildren Brooks Opeka, Elle Opeka, Landon, Evie, Jedidiah, Henry, CJ, and Harper; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 6:30, Wednesday, January 28th at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron). A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 29th at 10:00am at St. Peter of the Fields (3487 Old Forge Rd., Rootstown) with Fr. Kevin Bertleff officiating.
Interment will take place at St. Peter of the Fields Cemetery.
