Thomas M. Pergola, 63, of Akron, passed away on May 15, 2025 after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Tom was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Victor and Margaret Pergola. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1979. From 1982 to 1986, he served in the U.S. Air Force as an engine mechanic. Following his service, he spent the majority of his career working as a self-employed mechanic.
Tom spent years as an advocate for Suicide Service Member Prevention. He had a big heart and looked after the kids in his neighbourhood, never hesitating to stop what he was doing to help when they had an issue with their bike that needed tending to.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his partner, Cathie Knight
He will be deeply missed by his sister, Jean (Michael) Wascher; brothers, Victor (Maureen), Robert (Cheryl), and David (Madonna) Pergola; step-son, Michael Knight; one niece, and five nephews; and many friends.
Tom will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Janota Club, 45 Morgan Ave, Akron, OH 44311. Please check back for more information on a service date and time.
