Thomas O. Moneypenny

November 28, 1931 — September 22, 2016

On September 22, 2016, Thomas O. Moneypenny, 84, while snuggled up and asleep and surrounded by family, passed away with peace, grace and dignity. On his way to a grand reception, he will surely not be alone. At the reception he was first greeted by the Heavenly Father who he so cherished. Then he was greeted by his father and mother, William and Veronica Moneypenny. His eyes teared with joy as he joined his two sons, Terry L. Moneypenny and Joseph P. Moneypenny, and grandson, Zachary L. Moneypenny. The crowd continued to grow as Dad was reunited with six older brothers, William (Bill) Moneypenny, Art Moneypenny, Leo Moneypenny, Edward (Eddie) Moneypenny and Lawrence (Larry) Moneypenny. Making sure things did not get out of hand, joining the celebration were three older sisters, Beatrice Moneypenny, Rita Schweitzer (Moneypenny) and Francis Spence (Moneypenny). Though it is a joyous reunion in Heaven, Tom Moneypenny will surely be missing the loving wife he leaves behind, Gloria (Shell) Moneypenny, who for 62 years was his rock, his companion and soul mate. Dad will be greatly missed by his son, Garry Moneypenny, and his loving daughters, Tomala (Tommie) Moneypenny, Lisa Terry-Ritenauer (Moneypenny) and Amy Moneypenny. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Gaffney (Moneypenny) and Betty Oettinger (Moneypenny). He is also survived by others who loved him, daughters-in law, Kim (Terry) Moneypenny and Sandy (Garry) Moneypenny, and son-in-law, Scott (Lisa) Ritnauer. Missing grandpa greatly will be grandsons, Jason and Nicholas Moneypenny, Alex Moneypenny, Jake Parsons and Joseph Terry. Missing his love will be granddaughters, Leanne Karadin, Michelle Terry, Macie Moneypenny and Tylee Moneypenny, who Dad raised and cared for as a daughter. Eight surviving great grandchildren will miss great grandpa.

Dad was a lifelong resident of Akron, graduating from East High School. After high school he joined the United States Air Force to serve his Country. He served four years as a cryptographer in Korea, earning the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He returned to Akron where he was a transportation analyst with Akron Chicago Trucking. He was then recruited and hired by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he loyally worked for 32 years, retiring as a Senior Transportation Manager. Dad was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister, and in his younger days was an Alter Boy at Annunciation Church in Akron. Dad, we were fortunate to have you in our lives for 84 years, your essence, intrinsic nature and indispensable quality will live forever. Greatly missed will be the love you had for your immediate and extended family.
