Thomas James Kever went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 5th, 2026. He passed away peacefully at home with his wife Nancy at his side.
Tom was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 8, 1942, to Peter and Helen (Kuta) Kever. He came to faith in Christ as a young boy and that faith became the lynch pin on which his whole life was anchored.
Tom was a person of many unique qualities. Challenges he encountered produced a resourcefulness which gave him stamina throughout his life. He was a car mechanic, home builder and washing machine technician! Born with a naturally artistic eye, he loved beauty and could create beautiful paintings and drawings. He also had a knack for words and language. His friends knew him to be a non-conformist, a questioner of the establishment, a hound for the truth. One of his favorite activities included falling into a friendly repartee over email with his children and enjoying the often bumpy ride to the conclusion.
Tom’s natural bent to question and push for truth gave him a thirst for the Bible and its revelations about God. He is now in full possession of all knowledge!
A gifted teacher, Tom spent his career as a middle school art teacher for 30 years in the Cleveland City schools. After retirement, he and Nancy also taught for three years in Boston before both moving to Prague, CZ to teach in an international school for eight years. After a rich and varied career, he and Nancy relocated back to the Akron area for full retirement.
Tom is survived by his wife Nancy (Habeck) with whom he enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Also surviving are his six children: Honor (David) Via, Suzanne (Caleb) Buchanan, Peter (Margaret) Kever, Karin (Gregory) Smith, Daniel (Joslynn) Kever and Andrew (Merri) Kever. He was a proud grandpa of twenty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and a loving brother to his sister Janet MacDonald who also survives him.
The family would like to welcome all who remember Tom to his visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 9:30am. The funeral service will follow the calling hours at Newcomer Funeral Home at 11:30am. Tom will be laid to rest at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.
