Listen to Obituary

Theodore W. Iler, 86, of Uniontown, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on February 25, 2026. Ted was born in Dennison, Ohio, on April 23, 1939, to the late John and Leona Iler.

Ted earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Ohio University. While in Athens, he met a local girl, Elizabeth Robinson, at a church event. They fell in love and married six months later, just one day after Ted’s graduation. The couple moved to Akron, where Ted embarked on a distinguished career as an electrical engineer at Goodyear Aerospace from 1963 to 1990. He concluded his professional journey at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, retiring in 2006.

A man of deep and active faith, Ted was a longtime member of High Street Christian Church in Akron. Following its closure, he and Elizabeth helped establish Harmony Springs Christian Church in Green, where he served faithfully as an Elder and adult Sunday School teacher.

Ted was a tireless volunteer, dedicating his time to organizations such as Open M and Goodyear Heights Good Neighbors. For over forty years, he was a devoted member of Gideons International, most recently serving as the president of the Akron South Camp.

When he wasn’t serving his community, Ted loved the "high-tech treasure hunting" of geocaching. He was incredibly proud of his hobby, successfully locating 2,476 caches alongside his family.

Ted lived a life defined by both trial and triumph, always guided by his desire to follow Christ’s example. Nothing brought him greater joy than sharing life with his grandchildren, and he was profoundly grateful to see his legacy continue through his great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his dedication to his fellow man and his rare ability to turn any stranger into a friend.

In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Iler.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth; his children, David William Iler, Jeffrey Wayne (Sandra) Iler, and Robin Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Fee. He was the beloved "Poppy" to his grandchildren, Philip Jeffrey Iler, Katherine Sandra (Trevor Shelton) Iler, Jonathan David Fee, and Elizabeth Ann (Trevor) Monk; and his great-grandchildren, Daniel Wayne and Theo James. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, including Rick Iler and Wendy Cottrell.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gideons International or Goodyear Heights Good Neighbors.
