Susan Diane Hibbs, 76, of Akron, passed away on February 2, 2026. She was born in Morgantown, West Virginia to the late Junior and Dorothy Lawson. As a teenager, Susan was introduced to John R. Hibbs. They fell in love, married, and enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon at Yellowstone National Park before John returned to military service.
The couple moved to Mountain Home Air Force Base, where they spent some of the happiest years of their lives. After John completed his service, they lived in West Virginia and Wisconsin before settling in Ohio and raising their family of three children.
Susan had a way of making everyone around her feel special and she surrounded herself with many close friends throughout her life. She was incredibly generous and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She also had a soft spot for animals and nursed many little critters back to health over the years.
Susan was always active. In younger years, she enjoyed playing softball. Her creative talents were evident in the ceramics she painted as well as the items she sewed and crocheted. She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labor.
In 1998, Susan's life was changed forever due to being struck by a vehicle as a pedestrian. Although she endured many physical hardships in the years that followed, she maintained her lovely spirit and positive outlook. We can all learn from the grace with which Susan lived her life.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of thirty-six years, John.
Susan will be profoundly missed by her children, Johnny (Michelle) Hibbs, Stacey Weiss, and Angela Hibbs; brothers, Bradley Lawson, Mark Arnold, and Scott Arnold; grandchildren, Chad Heide and Ashley (Eric) Weese; great-grandchildren, Ruby, Jade, and Amethyst.
Per Susan's wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.
