Susan M. Floyd

Susan M. Floyd, 85, passed away on May 26, 2025. She was born on August 16, 1939 the daughter of the late Robert and Catherine Moore of Washington, DC. She was a woman of great faith and was a member of Akron Baptist Temple for many years. She devoted her time and energy to helping others, always believing in the power of kindness and compassion. Her service to the community whether it be at Chapel Hill Nursing Home, Hospice or helping friends and family, reflected her genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of those around her.

Susan embraced sports, with a particular love for bowling and softball. In addition to her athletic pursuits, Susan was a talented musician. She possessed the rare gift of playing music by ear, often sharing her love of song as a soloist at her church. As a writer, Susan found joy in expressing her thoughts, experiences and her sense of humor.

She enjoyed Myrtle Beach and the late night games of Farkle and Phase Ten, finding treasures with her metal detector, the joy of riding mopeds, and reading.

She will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her smile, her love of life, and above all her love of family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ronald R. Floyd Sr.; brothers Robert Moore Jr. and Wayne Moore; sister Katy Sapp; and her dear best friend Gerry Anderson.

Susan is survived by her loving family her daughters Kim (Gary) Somerville and Terri (Jesse) Tharp; and her "favorite son" Randy (Dana) Floyd; grandchildren T.J. (Meghan), Nicole (Jordan), Gary (Kelly), Travis, Jennifer (Tristan), Rebecca (Max), Amanda (Kyle), and Collin (Kimmie); 15 great-grandchildren; beloved sister Virginia Wigle; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 6th from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Rd., Akron) where services will be held at 1:00pm.
