Susan Dye

Susan Winter Dye, a woman whose life was defined by caring for others, passed away on July 21, 2026, at the age of 76. She was born on June 11, 1950, to Wayne and Leona Winter.

Caring for people came naturally to Susan, and she turned that gift into a lifelong career in nursing. A graduate of St. Thomas Hospital School of Nursing, she rose to serve as a nursing director, bringing warmth and compassion to everyone in her care until her retirement.

She married Philip John Dye, and the two honeymooned in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, beginning a partnership and a love that would span 52 years. That same instinct to care for others led Susan and Philip to found a medical supply company together, devoted to creating products that improved daily life for people with disabilities. They built it side by side, as they built everything.

More than anything, Susan's heart belonged to her family. She and Philip built their family through adoption, welcoming son Patrick and daughter Melissa with open arms and never-ending love. Her children and grandchildren always came first, and she made sure every one of them knew, without question, how deeply and completely they were loved.

She is survived by her children, Patrick of Youngstown and Melissa (Nate) Connor of Akron; grandchildren Hendrix, Millie, Joshua, Westley, Philip, and Annabelle; her sister, Sally (Dan) Roman; nephew Maxim(Alexus); and grand-nephews Ivan and Steven. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Philip J. Dye, in November 2024; her parents, Wayne C. and Leona Winter; and her brother, Steven Winter.

The family will have a memorial mass for Susan at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Susan's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
