Listen to Obituary

Shirley F. Souders, 83, of Akron formerly of Harts Creek, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on October 16, 2026. She was born on December 20, 1942 in Ragland, West Virginia to the late Georgia and Earsel Spry.  She retired from General Motors after 26 years of service.

Shirley enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labor. She loved cooking and was known for her delicious potato salad. She was a talented seamstress and a proclaimed fashionista by those who knew her. Shirley was an avid fan of bluegrass, gospel, and country music from the 60’s and 70’s. She enjoyed going to the races, her favorite track being Sparton Speedway in Michigan. She was truly a trick of all trades!

Shirley was a fabulous host who above all adored having her family together, whether it was to crack jokes or just spend time together.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Joseph Jones II; sisters, Colleen, Redith, and Pauline; and brother, Kenny.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Terri (David) Morris and Jerri (Ron) Eckberg; grandchildren, Justin “JJ”, Julie, Tiffani, Ashlie, Brandin, and Kaitlynn; 13 great-grandchildren; sole surviving sister, Geraldine; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of her Life will take place at a later date at Hoover Church of Jesus Christ in Harts, WV. Please check back for more details.

Please consider a donation in Shirley’s memory to Hoover Church of Jesus Christ at 8130 Harts Creek Rd, Harts, WV 25524.
