Ruth Ann Katzenmeyer, a beloved matriarch and devoted registered nurse, passed away on July 14, 2025, at the Cleveland Clinic, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, caring, and commitment. Born on April 1, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ruth’s warmth and kindhearted spirit touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey.
As a graduate of Shadyside School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Ruth was a dedicated professional whose nursing career spanned several decades. She proudly served at St. Thomas Hospital and Akron City Hospital, specializing in Intensive Care, the Emergency Department and Trauma. Her commitment to healthcare extended beyond the hospital walls, as she also worked as a State of Ohio Occupational Health Nurse and as an RN at Goodyear Aerospace. Her wide range of medical knowledge made her a trusted figure, one with whom family, friends and neighbors would turn to for advice, reassured by her empathetic listening and caring disposition.
Ruth's interests extended beyond the care of others; she embraced life with enthusiasm. Ruth was outgoing and personable, creating lasting connections with those fortunate enough to know her. She had a passion for travel, enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader. Furthermore, she enjoyed engaging with her neighbors through the Gourmet Club and the Ladies Wine Club. Sharing delectable meals and laughter was a testament to her belief in celebrating lifelong friendships and life’s simple pleasures.
Above all, Ruth cherished her family. She was the loving wife of Bill Katzenmeyer with whom she celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage filled with joy, adventure, and an unwavering bond. Together, they built a family that would become their greatest source of pride. Ruth was a proud mother to her children, Julie (Jim) Ball and Dr. Bryan (Dr. Chelsea) Katzenmeyer, and she reveled in the role of grandmother (Oma) to her beloved grandson, Travis Ball. Her devotion to her family was unwavering, and her pride in their achievements was a testament to her nurturing spirit. Each moment spent together was a cherished memory, as she adored them with all her heart.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Shirley Schell who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms. The memories of her kindness, wisdom, and laughter will forever echo into the lives she touched.
As we gather to celebrate her life, the visitation will be held on July 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM, leading into the funeral service commencing at 3:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio. A private interment will be held at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where she will be laid to rest.
Family, friends, and neighbors will remember Ruth not only for her professional accomplishments but for her genuine kindness, her laughter and the love she lavished upon those around her. Her legacy of compassion, wisdom, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched.
