Ruth Ann Baynes, 86, of Akron, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2025. She was born on June 25, 1939 in Akron, Ohio to the late Leland and Mildred Martin. She graduated from Butchel High School. She worked as a secretary for the University of Akron for 25 years.
Ruth Ann was a devoted longtime member of The Chapel in Akron, where she met her beloved late husband, Will. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, and she joyfully expressed it through many years of singing in the church choir and participating in senior groups. Alongside her deep appreciation for gospel music, Ruth Ann was also a devoted fan of the Carpenters and loved singing along to their songs. She had a passion for crafting and crocheting, and was a gifted seamstress who lovingly sewed clothing for both herself and her family.
In addition to her parents, Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Will Baynes; and brothers, William and Gary Martin.
She is survived by her son, Mark Jones; daughters, Cheryl Heaton and Lori Jones; step-children, Donna Simons, Barb (Rick) Suszter, and Roy (Santa) Baynes; brother, Richard (Karen) Martin; grandchildren, Austin (Megan), Andrew (Tori), Alex, Lindsay (Tom), Brittney, John, and Emily (Mason); and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. An open mic memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m., where guests are warmly invited to share memories, stories, and reflections in honor of Ruth Ann.
