Ronald D. Steadman, 90, of Akron, passed away August 11, 2014. He was born in Pennsylvania and worked for Corning Glass Works in New York until going to serve in the U.S. Army in 1943 through the end of 1945 in the Pacific Ocean Theater of WWII. Ronny moved to Akron, Ohio in 1946, where he resided the rest of his life. After graduating Hammel Business College, he worked for Schrader-Bellows and Scovill for 32 years before retiring in 1982.
Ronny was a manager of Akro-Nites Majorette Group for 14 years. He was an avid round, square and line dancer and enjoyed clogging, as well, for 32 years. He also managed Springlake Center Dance and Recreation Hall for 13 years. Ronny enjoyed extensive traveling by bus and air and, along with his wife, visited all but four states in the USA. Some of his favorite trips included Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and a few cruises.
Ronny's other hobbies were collecting clowns, playing the accordion, gardening and growing plenty of vegetables for friends and neighbors. He also was a member of the Rubber Capital Harmonica Band and the Ohio Country Western Music Association.
In addition to his loving Wife, Gearline Steadman, Ronny is survived by his Son, Ronald E. (Patricia) Steadman of Hartville, Ohio, Son-in-law, David Kern, 5 Grandchildren; Brian (April) Kern, Julie Kern, Shelley (William) Reinacher, Tracy (Butch) Henry and Kelly (Edward) Schied, 2 Sisters; Arlione Beebe and Carol Schiners, 10 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Granddaughter, and many Nieces, Nephews, and Extended Family. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Siblings, and Daughter, Diane Kern.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, where funeral services will be held Friday, August 15, 2014 at 11:00 am. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park in Ellet. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service, C/O Akron General Foundation, 400 Wabash Ave, Akron, OH 44307-2463.
