Our loving father, Ronald “Ron” Beken, 83, of Rootstown, Ohio, was called to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family on July 23, 2024.
Ron was born in Norvelt, PA, and later grew up in the Village of Lakemore where he attended Springfield High School. Ron married the love of his life, Nancy (Oster) Beken on June 25, 1960. Together, they raised their 3 daughters in the Chapel Hill area of Akron later moving to Rootstown, OH. He retired from Local 18, Operating Engineers in 2001. Prior to that he worked as a job superintendent for commercial construction and a concrete pump operator. Our dad could do anything he put his mind to from remodeling, carpentry, or building a car or truck from scratch. He loved old cars, going to car shows and doing burnouts in his hot rod pickup truck. He was a gun enthusiast and proud member of the NRA. He also enjoyed fishing in the wee hours of the morning. Ron was very affectionate and never missed an opportunity to share his love for his family. He had a great sense of humor and was always right so there was no need to argue. Ron was a man of God and had a very generous and giving heart, always helping those in need. We will surely miss him, but we find peace in knowing that he is finally reunited with our mother who he missed so fiercely.
Ron is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Paula (Joe) Pascucci of Louisville, OH , Nannette Colando of Akron, OH, Roni (Vince) Racco of Green, OH; grandchildren, Angel (Matthew) Thornton, Adriona Miller, Alissa Miller, Alexandra Frashuer, Jamin Davis (Lilli “Rose” Campbell); great-granddaughters, Sophia, Savana, and Stella McKeown, their father, Lee McKeown; brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Sandra) Beken; sister-in-law, Margeret (Joe) Lapinski; niece, Lorraine Frid; best friend, Kim Neubert; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Nancy (Oster) Beken, his parents, Edward and Frances Beken, as well as his sisters, Althea Province, Ruth West, son-in-law, Jerry Colando, and his beloved dog, O’Reilly.
A short, informal, burial service will take place on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown,Ohio. Pastor Don Richards will be officiating. Those who wish to come and support the family or share a memory of Ron are welcome.
