Robert W. Opphile
Robert W. Opphile, age 84, passed away May 26, 2015 after a brave and hard fought battle with lung cancer. He was the son of the late Orbie Opphile and Alice (Woods) Opphile. He was born in Akron, Ohio on August 14, 1930. He graduated from Central High School in Akron, Ohio. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many; his gentle spirit and laughter will be missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicky Opphile; life partner, Al Taylor; and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Opphile. He is survived by his son, Steve (Jian) Opphile of Charlotte, North Carolina; and daughter, Louanne (John) Pitts of Louisville, Ohio; grandchildren, Adam Opphile (wife, Jenny), Regan (Opphile) Strausser (husband, Bob), Keli Ruff, Joshua Pitts (wife, Izzy), and David Pitts (wife, Kelly); great-grandchildren, Charlie and Raeni Calloway, Ripley and Jack Opphile, Lauren and Nathan Strausser, Taylor and Zack Pitts; and special friend, Jesse Swinford.
The family would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to all of the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Summa/City Hospital for their loving and compassionate care during his final days.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends may join the family to celebrate Robert's life on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
