Robert Jennings Smith

Robert J. Smith, 91, of Brimfield, passed away June 24, 2017. Bob was born on November 27, 1925 to the late Olive and J.B. Smith of Spearfish, South Dakota. He served honorably in Europe with the Army in WWII and earned his M.A. in Education from Stanford, followed by further graduate work at Harvard. Bob taught at Lehigh, Kent State and other universities, and retired from Ohio Bureau of Employment Services.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Coila Smith of Olive, Montana.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Katherine; sons, Jennings and Stephen (Terri); grandsons, Daniel (Brenda), Cory, and Timothy, and many extended family.
As an avid outdoor enthusiast, Bob enjoyed climbing and skiing, especially in the mountain west.
Cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's honor to the Wilderness Society at www.wilderness.org
