Robert M. Burkholder (Burkie)
Robert M. Burkholder, 78, of Akron, passed away peacefully at home after a short, courageous battle with cancer on September 28, 2012. Burkie was born in Akron on May 29, 1934 to the late Dorothy and Clarence Burkholder, Sr. He was employed at General Tire for 30 years and later for Revlis. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. In his free time, Burkie loved golfing and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Clarence Jr. and Raymond. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Alice L. Burkholder; daughters, Kim and Rich Antal, Connie and Keith Bowers, Cheryl and Terry Hinkle, and Denise and Gary Greathouse; twin sister, Roberta Smith; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Visiting Nurse Service Hospice and Palliative Care for all their help and kindness.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Tuesday October 2 from 4-6 followed by a 6:00 p.m. memorial service with Father Mike Williamson officiating at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
