Robert (“Bob”) L. Dean, 83, passed away on Thursday, June 26th, 2025. Born in Braxton County, West Virginia on April 17th, 1942, Bob was a longtime Akron-area resident who retired from the United States Postal Service in 2003 after a long career serving the Cuyahoga Falls community as a well-loved letter carrier that brightened his route with an affable personality and easygoing manner.
In his youth, Bob was known for his voracious reading habit and love of the natural sciences, both of which remained active throughout his life. He was a graduate of Springfield High School and later served in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at bases in California, Washington, and Izmir, Turkey. Following his military service, he traveled the United States by motorcycle and later studied at the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California. He possessed a lifelong passion for photography and worked professionally in that field for many years, specializing in portraits and weddings.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold, mother, Rita, and wife, Deborah (Bradshaw) Dean. He is survived by his sons, Brent and Brandon (Caralyn), his brothers Ronald (Judy), Roger (Alice), and Richard (Deanna), his sister Linda, and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44305) from 1 to 3 PM on Monday, July 7th, 2025, followed by a brief memorial service.
