Robert Lewis Bird, born May 25, 1936, in Princeton, West Virginia, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering devotion to family. He was the cherished son of Robert and Cleo Bird, who raised him in the close-knit community he always proudly called home.
Robert married the love of his life, Shirley, on August 16, 1957. Together they built a beautiful life grounded in faith, partnership, and enduring commitment, sharing 68 wonderful years of marriage.
He graduated from West Virginia University in 1959 with a degree in engineering, beginning a long and dedicated career in the tire industry that spanned 43 years. Never one to slow down, Robert embarked on a second career with Enterprise following his retirement, where he worked for another 21 years, continuing to connect with people and share his warm spirit.
Robert found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved the game of golf, treasured time spent with his family, and lived his life guided by a deep and abiding love for God. His home was a place of welcome and warmth—there was always room for one more at his table.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; his daughters, Susan Bird, Kelly Brownlee and her husband Craig, and Tracy Muncy and her husband Greg. He was a proud grandfather to Noelle Myles and her husband Jonathan, Lacey Whitaker and her husband Mark , Aubrey Rose, Mitch Muncy and his girlfriend Kylee Livengood, and Cole Muncy and his girlfriend Marissa Brooks. Also, bonus grandsons Blake Brownlee, Mark Brownlee and wife Airry, Matthew Brownlee and wife Kate. He was also blessed with great grandchildren Eli Myles, Gideon Myles, Noah Rose, Greyson Whitaker, and Owen Whitaker.
Robert will be remembered for his kindness, his steady presence, his faith, and the love he gave so freely to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Calling hours will be held at New Life Baptist Church, 3603 Carper Ave. Akron, OH 44312 on Wednesday, April 15th from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed by a 5:00 p.m. memorial service with Pastor Forest Greetham officiating.
