Richard Allen Johns

Richard Allen Johns, 68, of Akron, passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2026. Known to friends as Rick and to co-workers as Otie, he will always be remembered for his kindness and hospitality to others.

Rick was born on July 15, 1957 in Akron to the late Darrell and Seba Johns. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1976. For 38 years, Rick worked as an inspector for Ohio State Waterproofing where he was well-respected by co-workers and customers alike.

In his free time, Rick loved attending NASCAR races, chartering boats for a day of fishing on Lake Erie, trips to area casinos to try his luck at the slot machines, and quiet evenings with his four fur babies, Baby Bear, Buddy, Pretty Pearl, and Kitty Kitty Wobbles.

Above all, Rick enjoyed opening his home to others. His pool parties were legendary and will always be remembered.

Rick will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Sara. They were friends for over 50 years and married on August 16, 2016. Rick is survived by his brother, Darrell Johns Jr. and sister, Belinda Johns; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Per Rick's wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.
