Richard "Yogi" Helmick

Richard Allen "Yogi" Helmick, 71, of Akron, passed away on June 19, 2026 at his home.

He was born on May 3, 1955 to Bud and Carol (Sherman) Helmick in Akron, OH.

Richard worked as a Truck Driver for Kolenz Transport and Kismore Trucking.

He met and married Denise Lyn Powell. Richard and Denise lived in Akron, Ohio.

He loved fishing and hunting with his brother. He enjoyed spending time in Kilbuck, OH.

Yogi loved attending all sporting events for his grandchildren. He loved to visit and spend time at home in West Virginia. Richard was very outspoken, he always spoke his mind no matter the circumstances.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Denise; daughters, Kassandra and Toni (Roy, Jr.) Boyes; grandchildren, Hannah, Keyli, Lucas, Bentley, and Bailey; brothers, Zeke and Chuck; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud Helmick and Carol and Eugene Baringer; son, Jason; grandparents, Pauline and Zeke Sherman; sister-in-laws, Suzie and Cathy; parents-in-law, Fran and Bill Powell; and best friend, Rex.
