Richard E. Meyer, age 92, died on Thursday, April 30, 2015. Richard was born in 1922 in Akron, Ohio where he had been a resident his entire life.
Richard attended the University of Akron where he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a 2 1/2 year veteran of WWII, where he served in the U.S. Army as a gunner on a mobile anti-aircraft vehicle in Europe and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a church member of the Chapel of Akron. He was also a member of the D.A.V. in Akron. He retired after 38 years of service with Firestone where, at retirement, he held the position of Mechanical Utilities Engineering Manager.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Meyer; sister, LaRue Filey and parents, Grace and Ernest Meyer.
Richard is survived by his wife, Janet of 56 years; daughter, Sheila Chapman and grandchildren, Jessica and Matthew Chapman, and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 5pm to 8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd Akron. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 11:00am at The Memorial Chapel, 135 Fir Hill Akron, Ohio 44304. Interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
