Listen to Obituary

Richard A. Johnson, age 83, peacefully transitioned from this life on 12/31/2025, surrounded by family & a ton of love.

A man of few words and deep patience, Richard was the embodiment of quiet strength. A fisherman and outdoorsman at heart, he found peace in nature and purpose in providing for his family. He lived by example steadfast, dependable, and protective showing his love not through constant words, but through consistency, sacrifice, and presence.

Born in Akron Ohio on October 29, 1942, Richard was shaped by an era where men didn’t say much, but they showed everything. He attended Howard Trade, and as a young man, He was also known as “the glove” for his talent in baseball. He was a devoted provider and protector, fiercely committed to the well-being of his family. In a time when those qualities feel increasingly rare, his life stands as a powerful reminder of what it truly means to be a man of integrity and responsibility.

Among the many memories cherished by his family, one that continues to bring smiles is the annual Fish Frys he and his wife Barbara hosted, as well as a houseboat trip shared with cousins an unforgettable time filled with laughter, togetherness, and simple joy. It was moments like these, unhurried and genuine, that reflected who he was at his core: a man who valued family and creating memories that would last long after the moment had passed.

Richard Johnson was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Johnson, son Richard S. Johnson, bonus son Erik Ashford, parents Robert P. Johnson, Frances M. Johnson, brother Jack Johnson, bonus great grandson Tymir Gordon. Survived by his daughters Denise Adams, Lisa "Monalisa" Johnson, bonus daughter Aleah Walker; grandchildren Andrea Jones, Diamond Masink, Sierra Wilson, Darin Adams, Sydney Lavender and Samantha Lavender, and bonus grandson MarQuis Walker; great grandchildren Izaia Bracy, James Bracy, Azir Bracy, and Myles Masink, brother Anthony Q. Johnson, nieces and nephew, and a long list of special friends and cherished family.

Richard’s life was well lived; he was a respected man of few words loved by his family and surrounded by those honored to be there as he went on to glory. Special thanks to Africare which provides compassionate, culturally sensitive in-home care and Summa Home Hospice nurses.

He leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and unwavering protection.

His life was a blessing. His presence was a covering. His legacy will endure.
