Phoebe Thompson

April 16, 1936 — May 18, 2025

The world dimmed when Phoebe Thompson, age 89, of Stow, Ohio previously of Jamaica, took her leave from this earthly realm on Sunday May 18, 2025. Born on April 16, 1936, in the sunlit fields of St. James, Jamaica, Phoebe blossomed into a beloved seamstress and hat maker. One of ten siblings, she forged her own path, always surrounded by the lively chaos of a large family, yet she possessed a presence that managed to stand out in the fondest of memories created throughout her life.

Phoebe’s enduring love for sewing transcended mere craft; it was her language of love. She nurtured those around her with her needle and thread, sewing treasured gifts for family and friends, special cushions that provided comfort and joy to others. Alongside her talent as a seamstress and hat maker, she was known for her kindness, repairing garments and mending hearts, embodying a spirit of generosity that resonated with everyone who crossed her path.

A true prayer warrior, Phoebe carried a profound connection to her faith. With a heart full of love, she prayed for EVERYONE, her devotion encapsulated within the pages of her well-loved Bible, often seen in her hands, the margins filled with notes and reflections reflecting a life rooted in love and spirituality.

As a dedicated spiritual matriarch, her devotion to her family was unparalleled. She poured her heart into loving and caring for her family. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Karen Thompson and Keith and Marcia Thompson; her grandchildren Stephen (Hannah) Thompson, Kayla Thompson, Kaylee Thompson, and Malik Thompson, who were her pride and joy, each one a blossom in her life’s garden. And as if further cultivating her legacy, she smiled warmly upon the arrival of her great-grandson, Gattlin Thompson, who she spoiled.

Phoebe's interests stretched beyond the realms of sewing. She found solace in the nurturing embrace of gardening, her green thumb bringing forth blooms that mirrored her own spirit—colorful, resilient, and full of life.

Though her loving parents, Tychicus and Ruby Johnson, and her beloved husband, Gladstone Thompson, have left this earthly domain, they remain ever-present in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her. Phoebe’s legacy will continue to flourish through the lives she touched, her kindness echoing through the generations that follow.

As the threads of her life are woven into the tapestry of her family’s history, Phoebe will forever be remembered not just for her art as a seamstress and milliner, but for the boundless love and unwavering faith she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. Every single stitch woven into a symbol of her creativity, and in every act of kindness, her spirit lingers, guiding her family onward with love and grace.

Visitation will be Thursday May 29th from 9 AM-11 AM at River of Life, 5649 Stow Rd., Hudson with funeral services beginning at 11 AM. Final resting place is Silver Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.
