Peggy Richards (Myers), mother, sister, aunt, wife, The Ga, friend, died on July 13th, 2026. Born on September 5th, 1945, to Peggy and Robert Myers, she was the oldest daughter of the oldest daughter of the oldest daughter.
She met Don Richards during the 3rd quarter of the football game between their two schools when she urged her then boyfriend to join Don’s big band because she thought Don’s ice blue eyes were so striking. They (Peg and Don) married in 1964 and had 3 children, Vincent, Brian “BC”, and Monette (Steven) – the latter being their favorite, of course.
Peggy was a kind woman. She and Don never lived alone. There was always someone in their house. From taking in her siblings-in-law, or best friends, or adult children, she wouldn’t turn anyone away.
Peggy was a strongly determined woman. After a malpracticed surgical procedure almost ended her life, she fought the evil Physical Therapists (the only worse people to her were the vampires who came to take her blood so often) to make it back to finish her Bachelors and then on to her Masters while on her walker, cane or any way it took to get into the building at the U of Akron.
Peggy was a patient woman. She was so slow to anger. She raised her children with love, understanding and guidance. She put up with so very much from them, while hardly ever raising her voice in response.
Peggy was a teacher. She taught honors level composition at UAkron until retirement. She shared her office with Jim Wallace for 25 years, with many stories, laughs and zebras. Her students came to her house for bonfires where some even burned their bras. They came back for letters of recommendation from her. They kept in touch with her. They wrote gleaming reviews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Keith (Becky), her brother Bobby, her sister Wanda (Tom). She is survived by her sister Becky (Steve), her children; her grandchildren Deidre (Eddie), Talon (Wally) and Kayleigh, her great grandchildren, Mara, Audrey, Lincoln and Deacon, and so many more family, whether blood or not.
Friends and family are invited to come share their favorite stories of Peggy at the Celebration of Life ceremony being held on her birthday this fall, September 5th, 2026. Venue TBD.
