Paul A. Pinder
Paul A. Pinder, 91, of Akron, passed away on August 26, 2012. He was born in Akron on September 18, 1920 to the late Francis and Mabel Pinder. Paul graduated from East High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. After completing his military service, he earned a Bachelor Degree from the University of Akron and a Master's Degree from Kent State University. He began his career as a teacher and later worked as a school principal in Idaho. He joined the Peace Corps and served in Morocco and the Mariana Islands. After the Peace Corps, Paul worked for the state of Ohio where he licensed nursing homes. After retirement, Paul enjoyed his membership in the Third Order of Secular Franciscans and traveling, most recently to Assisi in Italy. He spent the last years of his life at Pebble Creek Nursing Home.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Alsop Pinder; infant son, Steven P. Pinder; brother, Leo F. Pinder; and sister, Helen G. Paulis. He will be deeply missed by his brothers, John D. (Meveryn) Pinder and Charles K. (Betty) Pinder; and many nieces and nephews. Paul's family wishes to thank the staff members at Pebble Creek Nursing Home for the loving care they gave him. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will take place on Thursday, August 30 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:30 to 11:00 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton St., Akron. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pebble Creek Nursing Home Activity Fund, 670 Jarvis Rd., Akron, OH 44319.
