Listen to Obituary

Patricia “Patty” Vartenuk of Brimfield, Ohio passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026 after a short but courageous battle against cancer. She was born in Barberton, Ohio on October 9, 1959 to James and Eleanor Beck.

Patty was the youngest of 6 children and is survived by her sisters Pam Brann (Andy) and Barbara Carlson, her brothers Tim Beck, Jim Beck (Karen), and Jeff Beck (Rachel).

She leaves behind her husband of 25 years, Richard “Rich” Vartenuk, her twin daughters, Briana Johnson (Matias) and Kortney Cole, step daughters Mandi and Lacy Vartenuk, her beloved granddaughter Leona Fuentes-Johnson, and Rich’s brothers Mike Vartenuk (Cyndi) and Dave Vartenuk (Linda). Patty also leaves behind her many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly: Adam Beck (Emily), Jeff Beck Jr. (Andrea), Nick Beck (Allison), Mike Jones (Holly) and their children Tranum, Rayland, and Jackson, Brandi Jones (Matt), Kaitlin Beck, Kristin Beck and her children Noah, Ava, and Mia, Bryan Anweiler, Aaron Anweiler, Chris Vartenuk (Belinda), Gina Vartenuk, Mike Vartenuk (Amy), Eric Vartenuk, and Emily Brewer (Noah).

Growing up, Patty particularly enjoyed camping trips with her family (punctuated by the mishaps of her brothers). Patty moved to Naples, Florida with her first husband, and worked for the United States Postal Service. She and the twins eventually returned to Ohio and joined the family of Rich, Mandi, and Lacy. Patty then worked as an accountant for MagicWorks Entertainment where she supported many global and national performers, travelling exhibits, and athletes over her career. Patty continued to work as an accountant until her retirement in 2025. Patty supported St. Jude’s Hospital, Planned Parenthood, the Special Olympics, and other organizations benefitting women, children, and families. Her family and friends will always remember her as a genuine, kind, and welcoming person, known for her contagious laugh, easy smile, and warmth of spirit. An avid blues fan, Patty and Rich attended many live music events during their life together. Patty loved children and volunteered at St. Joseph school, leading a technology class for young students in the mid 1990s. Flower gardening was a great passion of hers, and no matter where she lived, the flower beds were bursting with color. Patty was a loving and wonderful mother to her girls, nurturing a great love of learning, sense of compassion, and independent thinking in her daughters that shaped the people they became. Patty enjoyed building puzzles with her sisters and nieces, working at cross-stitch, and playing cards (just like her mother). Her greatest joy later in life was becoming a grandmother. Patty and Leona were thick as thieves from day one with lots of laughs, tickles, and crafts. Her love lives on in all our hearts.

Per Patty’s wishes, cremation has taken place and in lieu of formal services, family and friends are invited to a spring celebration of her life on Friday, April 24, 2026 at the Goodyear Heights Lodge - East Room located at 2077 Newton Street, Akron, Ohio 44305 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
