Omer B. Emerick
Omer B. Emerick, 84, went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2014. Omer was born in Rochester Mills, PA and moved to Akron in 1961 to join his two brothers in the trucking industry. He worked as an over the road driver for A.C.E. Freight, Cooper Jarret Co., and retired from Jones Motor Co.
Omer was a member of the Masons, the Mogadore Moose, the Mogadore VFW and the Orioles Club. He was a member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the US Army. Omer loved Country Bluegrass music, dancing, and attending any sporting events involving his grandson. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his daughter and family. He was the youngest and last surviving sibling of his immediate family.
Preceded in death by parents, Oren B. and Mayme E. (nee Colgan) Emerick; siblings, Floyd, George, Harmon, Calvin, Katherine, and Janet; his nephews, Tim and Floyd, Jr. Emerick; and niece, Karen Olah. Survivors include loving daughter, Sandra (Robert) Tompkins; grandchildren, Raymond F. Barry, III "Ray Ray", Roxanne Tompkins, Robbie (Briana) Tompkins, Bryan Tompkins; and 6 great-grandchildren. He also leaves special nieces and nephews, Darlene (Bob), Kathy, Robin (Bill), Janice (Rick), Ron (Paula), Gary (Patty), Larry, Chuck and many other nieces and nephews. Omer was just like a second Dad to Donna (Craig) Hartline.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, 5-7:30 p.m., at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m., with Pastor Ed Witchey officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
