Oliver 'John' Hymes, Sr., 83, a loving husband, of Akron, passed away July 10, 2014. He was born in Lumber Port, West Virginia on March 26, 1931 to the late Frank and Catherine Hymes. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and worked many years for General Tire (along with his brother David) and the City of Akron as Chief Building Inspector.
John will be missed by his loving Wife and Childhood Sweetheart, Bernadine Hymes. He is also survived by Son, Oliver John Hymes, Jr., Son, David F. (Teresa) Hymes, Daughter, Diane M. (Jim) Petrella, Siblings, Jack, Joy, Mary, Paul, Joe Rule, Mark, Irene, Lois, Rita, and Rebecca Lynn, Grandchildren, Aaron, David, Jr. (Brittany), Daniel, and Justin, Great Grandchildren, Roman, Oliver, and Ruby, many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He also leaves Daughters, Darla, Debra, and Granddaughters, Chandara, Gia, and Chaya. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his Brothers, Tommy and David Hymes.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, OH 44305. Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Apostolic Church of Barberton, 1717 Turkeyfoot Lake Rd, with Rev. Rod Pamer officiating. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
